Spotify, the music streaming platform with more than 574 million listeners around the world, announced new trends in popular singers, albums, songs and podcasts. On Spotify’s annual global rankings, Taylor Swift topped the list of the most streamed singers this year, followed by Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, Drake and Peso Pluma in second to fifth place.
In 2023, Taiwanese users listened to the “most streamed artist” on Spotify. King Jay Chou once again won the title of Taiwan’s most streamed artist for the fifth consecutive year. What is particularly worth mentioning is that, in addition to many singers who have been famous for a long time and are deeply loved by the public, the new generation who have recently become popular are also emerging on this year’s list. “Want to Watch the Sunset in May with You”, sung by Chen Hua and with a catchy melody, was released in the second half of last year and became the most streamed song in Taiwan this year due to its extremely high spread.
In addition, the powerful power of movie and TV theme songs is also reflected in the rankings. For example, Sun Shengxi’s “Tears Remember You” ranked eighth in Taiwan’s most streamed songs of the year. It also gained higher popularity due to the movie “Want to See You” , and Wei Li’an’s “If I Can” was also on the list this year, ranking fifth.
Spotify said that Taiwan’s 2023 annual review list reflects that music from all over the world can transcend language and cultural boundaries, which shows the globalization of music. Taylor Swift, who released a new album last year, became the runner-up of Taiwan’s most streamed singer of the year. Japanese duo YOASOBI also entered the top ten list of Taiwan’s most streamed groups, ranking eighth.
Among the top ten most-streamed songs in Taiwan, five are songs by K-Pop singers, fully demonstrating Taiwanese listeners’ love for K-Pop this year. Songs by well-known female idols including NewJeans’ “OMG” and “Ditto”, (G)I-DLE’s “Queencard” and JISOO’s “FLOWER” respectively ranked fourth, seventh, ninth and most streamed songs in Taiwan. Ten.
BLACKPINK’s “BORN PINK” is the most streamed album in Taiwan this year. Jung Kook’s “Seven (feat. Latto)”, which was just released in the middle of this year, ranked third among the most streamed songs in Taiwan less than half a year after its release. In terms of podcasts, Bailingguo News is the most popular podcast program in Taiwan this year. Gooaye Stock Cancer and Tangyang Chicken and Wine House also maintain high popularity in 2023, ranking second and third respectively.
