Successful Covid-19 Vaccination Campaign in Atacama, Chile: Vaccine Loss Percentage at 7.14%

Vaccine loss percentage is 7.14%. The observed figure is lower than that indicated by the World Health Organization, which indicates that the losses must be less than 15%

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Chile has positioned itself internationally for its successful vaccination campaign and the contributions that our country has made to the world in this matter.

Thanks to the vaccination campaign, our country has had lower mortality from Covid-19, and as a government we continue to improve people’s health. This has been reflected in the fact that since the vaccination process against Covid-19 began in our country, to date 1,120,345 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 have been administered to the target population in the Atacama region.

Regarding this, the Seremi de Salud, Jéssica Rojas Gahona, emphasized that “during the entire pandemic period as an institution together with the Health Service we carried out hard work to protect people’s health. One of the specific actions developed was the implementation of the vaccination strategy against Covid-19, which has been quite successful and recognized at the Latin American level, and with which we have achieved a high percentage of people protected against this disease thanks to the application of more than one million doses of vaccines. As in all vaccination campaigns, this campaign has not been exempt from suffering losses, and in that sense, in our region the figure stands at 7.14%, which is well below the national average, and as indicated by the World Health Organization.”

For his part, the Regional Presidential delegate, Cristhian Fuentes, indicated that “our government has a strong commitment to people’s health. For this reason, from the beginning we have established guidelines to reduce waiting lists, improve infrastructure, attract new health professionals to the region and along with this, we highlight the implementation of the Zero Copay so that all Atacameños have access to health. dignified, timely and quality. Now, thanks to the approval of the 2024 budget, we will be able to enhance all this work due to the 8.1% increase in the health budget.”

Monovalent vaccine

In relation to the new monovalent vaccination campaign and more, people aged 60 and over with comorbidities, people aged 80 and over and health personnel who have already spent more than 12 months since their last dose, go to any primary health center in the region, since this vaccine provides protection against the predominant variant in the country.

His words were echoed by the president of the Atacama Medical College, Carmen Paz Rosas, who indicated that “vaccines save lives. Therefore, it is important that people participate in the vaccination process, to reinforce herd immunity as a region, which allows us to maintain a low number of infections.

It should be noted that the monovalent vaccine is part of the National Immunization Program and is part of the annual vaccination of risk groups.
