Vascular Professor: Walking daily and avoiding standing too much is the best prevention against varicose veins in the legs

Varicose veins are an annoying problem that some people suffer from. It affects the external appearance of the leg, and may be accompanied by many annoying symptoms that cause distress to the patient. Dr. Hossam Zaghloul, Assistant Professor of Vascular Surgery, Kasr Al-Aini Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, and Fellow of the Egyptian Society of Vascular Surgery, said during Exclusive statements to “Al-Youm Al-Sabea”: It is one of the annoying problems that appears in the form of threads or a visible vein on the leg that is severely swollen, protrudes outward, and is also winding.

According to Dr. Hossam, varicose veins may be accompanied by visible symptoms, including noticeable swelling and puffiness in the feet, and the patient may also suffer from annoying muscle tension at night.

The causes of varicose veins in the legs are due to many factors. The reason may be due to the patient’s family history, and the reason here is genetic, or weakness in the body’s tissues in general in some people. The reasons may be due to the nature of the veins in the body as well, and there may be a factor that causes the cessation of blood flow in the veins. Or a stroke or deep vein obstruction.

Dr. Zaghloul provided a set of the most important tips to prevent varicose veins, including:

– Avoid inactivity and start walking or running daily to help your body move and prevent strokes and varicose veins

– Pay attention to sitting whenever you stand for a long time, or walk or run, and do not stand for a long time to promote good blood circulation in the leg.

– Take care to lose your excess weight and do not let yourself fall prey to obesity, which increases the chances of developing varicose veins.

Drinking good amounts of water is very important for human health.

– Pay attention to movement and avoid inactivity, and if you notice the appearance of varicose veins on your legs, refer yourself to a specialist doctor and do not neglect treating them.
