Dr. Hossam Mowafy, Professor of Critical Situations at Kasr Al-Aini Faculty of Medicine, revealed details of the complications of diabetes on vision.
Mowafi said during his presentation of the program “My Lord, Give Me Knowledge,” broadcast on Sada El Balad channel, that there is a relationship between sugar and the eye’s vision being affected, pointing out that the complications of diabetes occur in the arteries, the circulatory system, and the brain, and this indicates that poor vision may be due to diabetes.

Over time, high blood sugar can lead to blockage of the tiny blood vessels that feed the retina, cutting off its blood supply, Mowafi explained. As a result, the eye tries to create new blood vessels, but these new blood vessels do not develop properly and can easily leak fluid.
