Chinese electric car manufacturer NIO has proven that it is possible to develop and develop electric car battery replacement technology – the customer drives into the station and within a few minutes the car’s empty battery is replaced with another, charged battery so that they can continue their journey. NIO has reached an agreement with Volvo and Polestar’s parent company, another Chinese automaker Geely, to cooperate in the development of such technologies.
The agreement envisages that the two companies will cooperate in developing common standards for electric car batteries, a new battery exchange technology, as well as a jointly expanded network of exchange stations both in China and in Europe.
NIO has previously claimed that it is possible to replace the batteries in just 3 minutes. The plan is to develop the machines in such a way that they are compatible with the battery exchange systems of both companies, meaning that when driving a Geely machine, the battery can be exchanged at both Geely and NIO stations. The latest data shows that NIO has already built more than 2,100 battery exchange points. Most of them are in China, but they are also starting to appear in Europe, with the Chinese car manufacturer entering the European market.
