The money quickly went up in smoke when the best friends were visited by the fire service.

Do you think the fire brigade came to put out the house fire?
No. They were the ones who started it. And they get paid for the work.
– We paid a sum, but it is confidential, says Lars-Remi Arntsen to VG.
On 25 October, friends Bjørn Bilstad Johannessen (34) and Lars-Remi Arntsen (36) took over the house at Melsomvik in Sandefjord, which they bought for NOK 2.4 million.
The plan is to demolish the house that is there and divide the plot – so that they can each build their own detached house there.
– We thought it was easier than tearing it down. And then the fire service gets to practice smoke diving at the same time, says Arntsen.
It was Sandefjords Blad who mentioned the matter first.
And if everything goes as planned, the brand new detached houses will be ready next Christmas.
The best friends both have carpentry backgrounds, and plan to do much of the work themselves.
– It was very cool to watch. They were strong, the fire brigade. In any case, I think there were 12 who got trained, says Arntzen.

If you are wondering what it takes to get the fire brigade to set fire to your house? Yes, it starts with a phone call.
– It was just a matter of calling, and then we made an agreement with them. We had to remove all windows, roof shingles and blocked openings. We also had to take out all the electrical equipment and follow a waste plan. It’s definitely not free.
Emergency manager Carl F. Jacobsen in Sandefjord fire and rescue tells VG that they are grateful that they were allowed to visit and set fire to their friends’ house.
– When we receive such inquiries, we assess the fire technical and environmental aspects. When the conditions are right for that, we can have real exercises with real fires, so that we get trained in sharp smoke diving.
He says that there is a requirement for at least one hot fire drill each year per firefighter.
– We need some practice objects. When the neighborhood and surroundings are suitable, we say: “yes, please”. We are very pleased to have the opportunity, and are making good use of it.
