A human tragedy occurred in Huwei, Yunlin yesterday. A man surnamed Chen was suspected by his family of being “stuck in the dark” due to his abnormal behavior recently. He was controlled by his parents and brothers and performed an “exorcism ritual” of digging saliva, which resulted in Chen’s death in hospital. Death, the prosecutor brought the three suspects back for questioning, and they applied for detention for the crime of injury causing death and were approved.

The Huwei Branch of the Yunlin County Police Department held a press conference today and stated that it received a report from Joseph Catholic Hospital in the early morning of the 1st that the man surnamed Chen had no heartbeat before arriving at the hospital. The cause of death was unknown after first aid failed. Officers were immediately dispatched to investigate.

Police investigation revealed that the deceased was a man surnamed Chen in 1984. Family members claimed that after returning home late at night, Chen began to behave abnormally and did not eat or drink for many days. He was sent to the hospital but did not improve. Chen’s parents My brother and I think he is “stuck in the yin” and heard others say that as long as he drains his saliva, the bad things possessing him can be expelled.

Therefore, Chen Nan’s parents and three brothers took him to the Shenming Hall on the third floor of his house. On the pretext of exorcism, his mother controlled Chen Nan’s head and put his bare hands into Chen Nan’s mouth. His father controlled Chen Nan’s back and body. His brother controlled his hands and feet, causing Chen Nan’s death in the process. He called 119 and sent him to the hospital for treatment, but he had no breathing or heartbeat when he arrived at the hospital.

The police said that the deceased worked in a refrigeration factory. His father was a delivery driver, his brother was a pig farm employee, and his mother was a housekeeper. None of the four had received a handicap certificate. Neighbors said the family seemed normal.

The police pointed out that after receiving the notification, they immediately reported to prosecutor Cai Rulin to direct the investigation and issued warrants to arrest Chen Nan’s parents and brother. After interrogation, they were found to be suspected of the crime of injury causing death in Item 2 of Article 277 of the Criminal Law. The crime suspicion was serious and they had been committed for more than 5 years. For a serious crime and the possibility of colluding with witnesses, he applied to the Yunlin District Court on the evening of the 1st and was allowed to be detained.

The exact cause of death remains to be determined by autopsy, police said.
