Remakes of old parts Resident Evil horror series into the modern form are successful. Players and journalists are satisfied with the remakes of the second, third and fourth parts, sales are increasing, so it is not surprising that Capcom will continue this strategy.
At the PlayStation Partner Awards 2023 event in Singapore, the Japanese mutation of IGN confirmed himself Yasuhiro Anpo, the director of the Resident Evil 4 remake. But he did not reveal which parts will be improved.
“Again,” answered Anpo when asked if Capcom wants to continue making Resident Evil remakes. “We’ve released three remakes so far and they’ve all been very well received,” he added, talking about how excited he is that these old games can be played by today’s players. “We want to continue to create more,” he added.
If Capcom is going to proceed chronologically, then the next one is up Resident Evil 5. But as we know, many fans wish Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Capcom even recently asked fans what part they would like to see next in modern form. Code: Veronica is an important part of the main characters’ story; Claire, Chris and Wesker. Or the Japanese company can surprise and do remake of the number one, which did receive a remake in 2002, but why couldn’t it be improved once more. Additionally, in 2026, Resident Evil will celebrate its 30th anniversary.
Let’s summarize it again. Resident Evil 2 remake was released in January 2019 and sold 13.1 million units. Resident Evil 3 remake followed in April 2020, which has 8 million copies to its account. Resident Evil 4 remake was released in March this year and became the fastest selling part of the series. It quickly managed to sell 5 million units.
