LIVING LIFE. No Swedish men’s skater has been younger in the World Cup.
Alvar Myhlback wrote history at Hellnerstadion.
– You have to go very fast if you want to deserve so much attention, says Myhlback.
In Saturday’s 10-kilometer race, 17-year-old Alvar Myhlback made history.
– It was good, it was fun to compete. It was the funnest race this year with lots of people and nice weather. It was good, says Myhlback.
He came in 37th place.
Was it what you imagined?
– Yes, it’s ten kilometers long. It has been done a couple of times before. Then it’s everything around that becomes a little special. Standing and talking like this for half an hour after the race and stuff like that. But it’s fun.
Wants to deserve attention
You are the youngest debutant on the men’s side and have received a lot of attention. What do you feel about it?
– I try not to think too much about it. You start thinking “do I really deserve this?”. But damn, it’s fun too.
Why wouldn’t you deserve it?
– You have to go very fast if you want to deserve so much attention, I think. But I am working on it.
Calle: “Glad that he gets to go”
Calle Halfvarsson and Edvin Anger are glowing about Myhlback’s World Cup debut.
– It’s just to be impressed, says Anger.
– Nice that he gets to go here. He has earned the right to go and he will enter the World Cup. So it’s good that he gets to feel the hot air a little now. We will hopefully have Alvar in the World Cup for many years to come, says Halfvarsson.
On the women’s side, Viaplay’s expert Anna-Karin Strömstedt is still the youngest Swedish skater in the World Cup.
