Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios revealed that Andy Murray helped him during his depressionwhen he discovered the self-inflicted wounds he had sustained and offered him support.
Kyrgios, who will give an interview this Friday to Piers Morgan, said this year that after losing at Wimbledon 2019 He had suicidal ideations, spent time in a psychiatric hospital, and was competing with self-inflicted wounds on his arms.
“Murray saw the wounds and asked me what I had there. I was having a very bad time in that epic and Andy tried to advise me, but I was too in my world and didn’t listen to him. But I am very grateful to him,” Kyrgios said.
According to the Australian, Murray saw Kyrgios’ injuries during training and alerted the Canberra agent to try to help him.
“Andy has always supported me. When I arrived at the circuit he welcomed me. Then he realized that I am not someone who can be trained, that I was going my own way, but it has always been someone who has taken care of me.”
Kyrgios is currently on a sports break and has only played one match since October 2022 due to various physical problems, especially in the knee. Taking advantage of his free time, the Australian participated as a commentator on the Tennis Channel sports channel during the last ATP Finals.
Rafael Nadal announced his return to the courts
The Spanish tennis player Rafa Nadal announced this Friday that he will return to competition at the Brisbane tournamentin the first week of January 2024, before the Australian Open, after a year out of competition due to injury.
“Hello everyone, after a year away from competition, the time has come to return. It will be in Brisbane and it will be in the first week of January. See you there,” Nadal said in a message posted on social media to announce his return to the courts.
The Brisbane tournament will be played from December 31 to January 7 next year, prior to the Australian Open, which will be held from January 14 to 28, and which was the last event in which the Mallorcan competed.
Nadal, winner of 22 Grand Slams, played his last match on January 18, when he lost in the second round against the American Mackenzie McDonald, and since then he has followed a recovery process from a grade 2 injury to the iliopsoas in his left leg, for which he underwent surgery.
