Government North Korea (North Korea) threatens to destroy spy satellites United States of America if the country attempts “any attack” against its space assets. This threat was conveyed after Pyongyang launched spy satellite its first military flight into space last week.
A spokesman for North Korea’s Defense Ministry said it would consider the US action a “declaration of war”. According to a statement carried by North Korea’s official news agency, KCNA as reported AFPSaturday (2/12/2023).
The remarks came after a US official said that Washington “can counter enemy space capabilities… using a variety of reversible and irreversible means”, referring to North Korea’s successful launch of a spy satellite in late November.
The US military can undermine “the effectiveness and lethality of adversary forces across all domains,” Sheryll Klinkel, a spokeswoman for US Space Command, told Radio Free Asia this week.
On Saturday (2/12), Pyongyang threatened to “destroy” a US spy satellite if Washington “tries to violate the legitimate territory” of North Korea, referring to its satellite program.
If the United States attempts to violate its space rights, a North Korean Defense Ministry spokesman said the country “will consider taking responsive measures in self-defense to weaken or destroy the viability of U.S. spy satellites.”
