“ARK: Survival Ascended” is a remake of the open world survival action game “ARK: Survival Evolved” (hereinafter referred to as ARK) using Unreal Engine 5 (hereinafter referred to as UE5). The game is set on a mysterious island inhabited by dinosaurs, and players live a survival life in solo or multiplayer mode. In addition to crafting and building, it also features taming elements that allow you to tame creatures such as dinosaurs. The remake version of “ARK: Survival Ascended” has new graphics using UE5. In addition to changes to the building system, new elements are also included, such as the appearance of baby wildlife.
The game will be available for PC (Steam) on October 26th as early access. Early access distribution began on November 22nd for Xbox Series X|S and December 1st for overseas PS5 users. Approximately one month after the PC version was released, the game was released for consoles, but some cross-play between the console and PC versions has been temporarily disabled.
According to an announcement from the game’s official X account, the PC version of the game is temporarily unable to participate in the official cross-play PvP server. The four server types affected are “xx-pvp-theisland”, “xx-pvp-smalltribes-theisland”, “xx-pvp-modded-theisland”, and “xx-pvp-arkpocalypse-theisland”. The measures are reportedly expected to last until early next week, when robust anti-cheat measures are in place.
Users have reported that cheaters using cheats and glitches are prevalent on both the PvP and PvE servers in the PC version of this game. For PvP servers, which were particularly affected, temporary measures were taken to isolate the PC version from official cross-play servers. Please note that this measure does not affect single-player or if PC player participation is not disabled on private servers.
Cross-play, which was one of the selling points of ARK: Survival Ascended, was temporarily disabled on the official server for the PC version due to the presence of cheaters. Studio Wildcard is said to be preparing strong anti-cheat measures in cooperation with Microsoft and BattlEye Innovations, which handles the anti-cheat software for this game. It is expected to be rolled out early next week, and it will be interesting to see whether the measures will lead to fraud prevention.
As of this writing, this work has a “mixed reviews” status with a positive rating of 58% out of approximately 32,000 Steam user reviews. In addition to the problem of cheat users, other issues have been pointed out such as the existence of bugs and server instability. The early access distribution period for this work is scheduled to end at the end of 2024, and it will be interesting to see whether these issues will be resolved in future updates. The know-how gained through such efforts may also be utilized in the development of the next game, ARK 2, which is also scheduled for release at the end of next year.
