Šimon Nemec Makes NHL Debut with New Jersey Devils, Scoring in First Game

The hockey club New Jersey Devils has called Slovak defenseman Šimon Nemec from the farm in Utica to the first team. The 19-year-old guard made his NHL debut on Saturday night against the San Jose Sharks, replacing the injured Dougie Hamilton.

The former player of HK Nitra not only started in the first defensive pair, but also got the opportunity in the power formation and immediately on his debut he scored the first Canadian point in the opening act. Šimon Nemec with number 17 did not hit the goal from the first, but his teammate Dawson Mercer took advantage of his shot when he hit the puck out of the air.

It didn’t take long for Šimon Nemec to score the second Canadian point in his first game in the NHL, when Ondřej Palát did an excellent job of his shot in the final period.

Šimon Nemec started the season in the Utica Comets club, whose jersey he wears for the second year. He scored 8 points (2+6) in 13 matches. Against the San Jose Sharks, he became the 95th Slovak to play in the best league in the world.
