Libreville, December 1, 2023 (AGP) – The Gabonese President of the Transition, Brigadier General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma underlined, this Friday, December 1, in his circumstantial speech of Cop 28 in which he is taking part in Dubai, the need to evaluate the implementation of the resolutions adopted during previous meetings, reports a press release from the presidency received by the AGP.
“The Head of State took this opportunity to emphasize the need to evaluate the effective implementation of the resolutions of these meetings, and called on the organizers to recognize and reward Gabon’s efforts in this crucial role that it plays” , indicates the press release.
General Brice Clotaire justified his request, in view of the efforts made by his country in preserving the Environment. Indeed, Gabon has not yet been rewarded to match the enormous efforts it has made in this area.
The Gabonese head of state declared that his country intends to continue its efforts. To this end, he said “Gabon intends to build a new city, a dazzling and proud city while putting a particular effort on the preservation of ecosystems, in order to bequeath a sustainable future to its children and to the world”.
The Gabonese president did not fail to urge participants to demonstrate unity and resilience.
“I express the hope here in Dubai that the unity of humankind in the face of climate change will lead to a rise towards the happiness of a richer, more resilient world,” he declared.
Chaired by Sultan Al Jaber, Chairman and CEO of the Emirates Oil Company Adnoc, this international meeting which brought together the signatory countries of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and high-ranking personalities such as the Emir of Abu Dhabi, the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres, the President of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahmat, the heads of state and government, as well as the climate actors, had as main issue the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
These meetings were an opportunity for the parties to assess the progress made in the fight against climate change, to identify the gaps in climate action to date, and to agree on signals aimed at encouraging countries to take action. action, in order to achieve the long-term objectives of the Paris Agreement.
Ratified in France in 2015 by 195 countries, this agreement had several major objectives, the most important of which are the urgent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to keep global temperature below the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius, in order to prevent as much as possible the worsening of natural disasters, and the financing of vulnerable countries by developed countries.
In addition to his participation in this meeting, the Head of State spoke with the French presidents, Emmanuel Macon, Senegalese Maky Sall.
