Atambua, NTTOnlinenow.com – Commemoration of World HIV/AIDS Day in Belu Regency on the RI-RDTL border was carried out simply by a number of observers together with people living with HIV/AIDS, Friday (1/12/1022).

In the year commemorating World AIDS Day, HIV/AIDS sufferers voiced great hope and an invitation to work together to fight this pandemic on the Belu border through real action and hard work.

“Efforts to fight HIV/AIDS in Belu Regency have started in 2019 through collaboration between the CD Yakkum Bethesda Foundation, the Belu Regency Government, peer support groups, and AIDS care residents in 12 sub-districts,” said the Coordinator of CD Yakkum Bethesda Yogyakarta in the Belu area, Yosafat Ician

It is said that these programs support people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in getting psychological support to eliminate the negative stigma that often befalls them.

“This program includes activities to increase personal capacity, health, artistic performances and various other activities aimed at eliminating stigma and providing a positive impact in prevention, mentoring and moral support for PLWHA,” he said.

It is emphasized that PLWHA have the right to live and be healthy. “Therefore, they must have the courage to open themselves up so as not to be isolated in society,” said Ician.

Furthermore, he also asked the Government to intervene, so that volunteers could be formed from villages using village funds or ADD in Belu Regency.

“This is expected to increase the effectiveness of actions to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS in Belu, which currently has the highest mortality status in East Nusa Tenggara Province,” he explained.

Meanwhile, one of the PLWHA, Budi Pello, who has opened up, expressed his hope that this year’s commemoration of World HIV/AIDS Day would ensure that all parties, both from the government and society, could strengthen their self-confidence and encourage them to play an active role in efforts to control HIV/AIDS. AIDS in Belu.

Therefore, Budi also invited all residents on the Belu border to open up and eliminate the negative stigma towards HIV/AIDS in the Belu Regency on the RI-RDTL border.

“I hope that through various capacity building activities I can provide a touch of heart to the community to better understand and support PLWHA who still often experience discriminatory treatment,” he said.
