The House of Representatives is meeting today to decide on a recount of the votes for the House of Representatives elections in four polling stations in Tilburg. This has never happened before in the recent history of parliament.

The fact that the House of Representatives is meeting to decide on a recount is a result of a new procedure that prescribes that if the so-called Credentials Committee sees counting differences, the committee can recommend a recount to remove any doubts.

In this case there is a counting difference of more than 15 votes, after which the Commission has submitted to the House of Representatives a decision on a recount.

The House Committee notes that the Electoral Council has calculated that the differences are too small to influence the outcome. The chance that the result will change after a recount is therefore virtually nil. But the House committee still wants to apply the new rules.

To make a decision on the recount, sufficient members of the ‘old’ House of Representatives must be present tomorrow. If a recount is decided, it will take place on Saturday or Sunday.
