Undocumented Workers Protest at Paris Arena II Stadium for 2024 Olympics, Demand Legalization and Fair Working Conditions

Several dozen undocumented workers staged a protest at the Paris Arena II stadium, which is being built for the 2024 Olympic Games.

Videos posted on social networks show several dozen people protesting near the stadium. On the banner they set up in front of the building, there is a call to block the Olympics.

Workers are demanding legalization in the country and are outraged by working conditions, complaining of their “exploitation” by construction companies.

“We are determined to continue the fight against the machine of exploitation and not to give up in the face of contractors who are doing everything possible to wash their hands,” said a joint statement from the associations Gilets Noirs, CSP75, CSP20, CSP Montreuil, Droits Devant.

A similar action near the stadium took place on October 17. Then about a hundred people took part in it.

At the same time, a total of about five hundred workers, mostly from Africa, went on strike at 33 enterprises, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) trade union reported.

We are talking about construction, logistics, and cleaning companies located in Paris and its suburb of Saint-Denis, reports rsport.ria.ru.

Some workers and garbage collectors involved in preparations for the 2024 Olympics arrived at the office of a company that hires temporary workers near the Stade de France stadium.

As the union noted, employees working for large companies are constantly overworked, but employers refuse to issue them documents so as not to pay taxes. Some have been trying to obtain documents since 2008.

According to the trade union, from 7 to 10 thousand workers are legalized every year in France, despite the fact that this market numbers hundreds of thousands of workers.

It notes that in the Ile-de-France region, “from 40 to 62% of service sector employees are immigrants.”
