Dozens of households in Maassluis are without gas and water. During work on the Lijnbaan, a water pipe burst and water also entered gas pipes.

According to water company Evides, a total of 43 homes have no water and the gas has been turned off in about 60 homes. Electricity still works, reports Rijnmond Veilig.

Cold

A water tap has been arranged for residents where the water is turned off. People who are without gas and therefore cannot turn on the heating can go to a sports hall that has been opened as a shelter if they get cold. A spokesperson for the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Safety Region says otherwise Rijnmond that no one is there yet.

It is expected that all houses will have water again before midnight. The gas will be repaired during the night, gas network operator Stedin reports.

Zinkgat

The burst pipe caused part of the street to flood and created a sinkhole, a hole measuring three by four meters that is full of water. An Evides spokesperson calls it a ‘sinkhole’.

The Safety Region reports that sand and road plates will be laid down tomorrow. The street will probably be repaired early next week.
