Ukraine President Zelenskiy Fights for Military Self-Sufficiency and Territorial Gains

“Look, we’re not backing down, I’m satisfied. We struggle with the second [spēcīgāko] in the world of armies, I am satisfied. We’re losing people, I’m not happy. We don’t get all the weapons we wanted, I can’t be satisfied, but I can’t complain too much either,” Zelenskiy said in an interview with the AP news agency.

“We wanted faster results. From that point of view, unfortunately, we have not achieved the desired results. And this is a fact,” the president of Ukraine admitted.

He explained that Ukraine lacks the strength to achieve what it wants faster, however, he emphasized that this does not mean that Ukrainians are giving up and should give up.

“We are confident in what we are doing. We are fighting for what belongs to us,” Zelenskiy said.

The president of Ukraine admitted that his country has not received all the necessary armaments from the allies, but the limited number of soldiers has not allowed to move forward quickly.

At the same time, he also said that some positive results have been achieved in the last few months.

Zelenskyi said that Ukraine managed to achieve gradual territorial gains against a better armed and fortified enemy.

In addition, Russia’s Black Sea Fleet was reduced following Ukrainian attacks that breached the air defense system and hit the occupier’s headquarters in Crimea.

A temporary grain corridor established by Kyiv after Russia’s withdrawal from a wartime accord to ensure safe exports remains operational, Ukraine’s president added.

However, Zelensky does not dwell on the past, but focuses on the next stage – increasing the domestic production of weapons.

A significant part of Ukraine’s budget is allocated for this, but the current results are not enough to turn the course of the war, the president explained.

Zelensky expressed hope that Western allies, especially the United States, will offer favorable loans and contracts to achieve this goal.

“This is the way out,” Zelensky said, adding that nothing scares Russia more than a militarily self-sufficient Ukraine.

The AP agency states that the implementation of the current counter-offensive has been supported by tens of billions of euros worth of Western military aid and heavy weapons.

The commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, previously stated that the war against Ukraine is moving into the stage of positional battles with static and debilitating battles. According to him, high technology is necessary for victory. He warned that without a combination of new technologies and a strong technological leap, Ukraine faces protracted trench warfare.

For a while, Ukraine gained some advantages due to drones, but Russia has also increased their production.
