– Persons supplementing their early retirement or pension must remember that additional earnings may affect the amount of the benefit they receive. Jif the revenue exceeds certain thresholds – 70 percent. and 130 percent average monthly salary, ZUS may reduce or suspend the benefit paid – reminds ZUS spokesman Paweł Żebrowski.
Supplementing your pension. There are new thresholds
Earning limits change every 3 months. Żebrowski reminded that from December 2023 to February 2024. The limit for safe earning extra money is PLN 5,036.50 gross. This is over PLN 132 more per month than before.

Earnings up to this amount per month will not reduce the pension paid by ZUS. – However, in order for the Company not to withhold the payment of the benefit, additional monthly income in December, January and Februaryit should not be higher than PLN 9,353.50 gross – said Żebrowski.
He noted that revenue higher than 70 percent (PLN 5,036.50 gross), but lower than 130%. (PLN 9,353.50 gross) average monthly salary will result in a reduction of the benefit by the excess amount, however, not more than the amount of the maximum reduction. The amount of the maximum reduction is PLN 794.35 – for old-age and disability pensions due to total incapacity for work, PLN 595.80 – for pensions due to partial inability to work, and PLN 675.24 – for survivors’ pensions to which one person is entitled. .
Their limits do not apply, but there is an exception
The ZUS spokesman reminds that: Earning limits do not apply to retirees who have reached the general retirement age (60/65 years old). The only exception to this rule are seniors for whom ZUS increased their calculated pension to the amount of the minimum benefit (from March PLN 1,588.44 gross). Then, if the income from work exceeds the amount of the increase to the minimum pension, the benefit for a given period will be paid in a lower amount, i.e. without any subsidy to the minimum pension.
The ZUS spokesman pointed out that some pensioners can also earn without restrictions. These are people who receive pensions for war invalids and military invalids whose inability to work is related to military service. This privilege also applies to survivors’ pensions due to those entitled to these benefits.
