Slovenia will refund fines paid to citizens for violations of Covid-19 restrictions, it is reported Euronews.

Strict measures to combat the pandemic in 2020-2022. led to many Slovenians being fined for minor infractions, such as eating a sandwich without a mask.
Protests against Covid-19 restrictions in Europe OTHERS ARE NOW READING
The total amount of fines collected for violations of the Covid-19 restrictions was approximately 5.7 million euros.
It is planned to return approximately 1.7 million euros to the residents. All violations will be expunged from official population registers and court proceedings will be discontinued.
The government has already started refunding money to citizens who violated the rules on mandatory mask wearing and social distancing during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Among the tens of thousands of people waiting for refunds is a delivery driver who was fined for briefly removing his mask to eat a sandwich alone in the street. The police then ordered the man to pay 400 euros.
This caused discontent among many Slovenians, who believed that the police’s actions were excessive.
