Uganda has qualified for the 2024 Twenty20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and America. Uganda made history by being the last team to qualify for the 20-team tournament. Uganda is the fifth African country to play in the Twenty20 World Cup.
After Namibia, Uganda qualified as the second team from the African qualifying round. With this, the African favorites, Zimbabwe, were eliminated. Kenya also failed to qualify. They qualified as the 20th team with a nine-wicket win against Rwanda on Thursday. Batting first, Rwanda were all out for 65 runs in 18.5 overs. In reply, Uganda reached the target with the loss of one wicket in 8.1 overs.
Uganda has won five out of six matches in the qualifiers, beating Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe defeated Kenya by 110 runs in the last match, but the team suffered a setback when they lost to Uganda in the first match. The World Cup will be held from June 4 to 30 next year. In 2022, 16 teams faced each other.
Meanwhile, a jubilant video of the Ugandan players and support staff celebrating their World Cup qualification has gone viral on social media.
