Details: Schallenberg recalled that last year he was the only Western foreign minister who criticized the refusal of Lavrov’s invitation to the OSCE meeting by Poland, which was then chairing.
“As the West, we should not be afraid to sit down at the negotiating table with the Russians. I believe that the tendency to plunge into our own echo chambers in foreign policy is life-threatening,” said the head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
According to him, the OSCE implements diplomacy, which he himself advocates: “This is classical multilateralism in the best sense of the word.”
Let us remind you:
The day before, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba stated that North Macedonia’s consent to Lavrov’s participation in the OSCE ministerial meeting, as well as the consent of many ministers to travel to Skopje, were dictated by an attempt overcome the crisis in the organization. However, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, this will not save the organization from the crisis that threatens its existence. “I believe that if we really want to save the OSCE, we must either refound the organization or find a way to expel Russia,” Kuleba explained. As EuroPravda reported, on Tuesday the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry announced his refusal Minister from participation in the OSCE meeting due to the decision of the organizers to invite Sergei Lavrov to the meeting. Subsequently, the foreign ministers of the Baltic countries joined the boycott OSCE meetings. It also became known that several more ministers will boycott the meeting OSCE, but did not announce it publicly.
