“We have to do something”: Former factory in Salmsacher Bay becomes a meeting place

The people of Salmsache approved three loan applications on Tuesday and approved a total of over 2 million francs, including for a village daycare center. What is most talked about is the planned renovation of an old property on the Aach.

There’s a lot of money at stake this Tuesday evening. The three loan applications on the agenda also arouse the interest of Salmsachers in the community meeting. The last of the 108 eligible voters who enter the packed singing hall of the Bergli school building shortly before the start have to get additional chairs.

Catering is no longer an issue

Mayor Patrik Forrer has clear words about the loan application for 1.5 million francs for the renovation of the former factory building in Salmsacher Bay: “We have to do something. Otherwise, this building will remain standing until it falls apart.” The original concept of a restaurant business was rejected because it couldn’t be profitable there. Instead, among other things, a meeting room is now planned.

A Salmsacher who lives right next door points out vandals who are already plaguing the place again and again. She says: “I don’t want to spend 1.5 million on something that will then be destroyed.” “This problem always exists,” replies Forrer. “But I want to look at the 99.5 percent where no vandalism occurs, not at the other 0.5 percent.” In addition, the project is “not yet set in stone” and will be fleshed out by a project group after the loan application has been approved. The loan was ultimately approved with 90 yes votes.

New village playground and its own daycare center

Also, although not quite as clearly, the electorate subsequently voted in favor of a new village playground at the church community center for 175,000 francs. The third loan application in the amount of 330,000 francs for a school pavilion at the Berglischulhaus, which will house a lunch table and a daycare center, was also approved.

Most recently, voters approved the budget with a deficit of 411,900 francs. The capital of the political community currently amounts to almost four million francs. The unchanged tax rates of the political community (59 percent) and the school community (64 percent) are also approved.
