HPV infection is the most common sexually transmitted infection. But the virus can also be caught through skin-to-skin contact. That is why vaccination is recommended. Soon, both girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 18 will be able to get the vaccine for free.
Effective prevention means vaccinating both sexes.
Andreea Groza: HPV vaccination does not mean the beginning of intimate life.
Dr. Diana Mihai: “No. It means that we will get the vaccine between the ages of 11 and 18, before the start of sexual life. We are interested in being protected for life against 9 aggressive strains of HPV through vaccination. The vaccine can be given with a recommendation from the family doctor, from the gynecologist”.
Andreea Groza: We are talking about minors, how can they come to the gynecologist?
Dr. Diana Mihai: “From the age of 16, girls can come to the gynecologist to talk, to ask targeted questions. They do not need the presence of a parent. If they need investigations or treatments, then they need the presence of a parent.”
Andreea Groza: HPV causes the most common sexually transmitted infection. But it can also be taken by skin-to-skin contact.
Dr. Diana Mihai: “Yes”.
– You can get infected if you use a condom, just by skin-to-skin contact.
– It is possible that a girl or a boy, during the first sexual contact, get several dangerous HPV strains. It doesn’t mean he had multiple partners. It’s just that the current partner already has several stems.
– Therefore, both sexes must be vaccinated. To stop changing these viruses.
– 80% of people will come into contact with this virus.
Andreea Groza: Through vaccination, we prevent several types of cancer. Which are these?
Dr. Diana Mihai: “For the female sex – we prevent cancer of the cervix, vagina, and vulva. In men – cancer of the penis and anus. In both sexes – cancers of the ENT area, more precisely of the oropharynx, pharynx”.
