HPV Vaccination for Students by Ministry of Health – Schedule and Details

Since March of this year, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) has vaccinated boys and girls in the fifth grade of primary school against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The vaccination brigades went to public and private schools to protect the target population and 631,020 doses have been administered.

As vaccination is about to be completed in educational institutions, the Minsa reminds that boys and girls between 9 and 13 years old can go to the nearest health center to schedule their vaccination against HPV. With prior authorization from the father, mother or guardian, health personnel will carry out the vaccination.

María Elena Martínez specified that boys and girls who are vaccinated against HPV for the first time only receive one dose, as established by technical health standard 196-2022/MINSA.

He recalled that this vaccine prevents cancer of the cervix, vulva, vagina, anus and oropharynx.

The Minsa mentions that, starting in 2024, in accordance with what was announced by the Minister of Health, César Vásquez Sánchez, vaccination will be expanded for adolescents up to 18 years of age.

Currently, the Minsa, through the Immunization Directorate, is developing the directives for this vaccination process.
