Last year, German automaker Volkswagen announced plans to revive the Scout brand and use it to create an all-electric pickup truck. The plan was to offer the first machines to customers around 2026. Fast forward to today and it looks like Volkswagen has decided to outsource the development of these cars.
The Austrian company Magna Steyr will be responsible for the development of two models, while Volkswagen will part with about 450 million euros for such a pleasure, reports the Austrian media Small newspaper.
Magna Steyr is a well-known company in the automotive industry that provides the production of machines. Their most famous product is the Mercedes G-Class, but this Austrian company also assembles the Toyota Supra, BMW Z4 and individual models of several other car manufacturers. The representatives of the company have refused to comment on the news.
This time, however, Magna will only be responsible for the development of the machines, not for production, which has been one of their main specialties until now. VW Scout brand models are scheduled to enter production at the end of 2026 and will be produced at the VW plant in South Carolina, USA, where up to 200,000 cars can be produced annually.
