To get straight to the point: I need your help! Lyme disease is currently hindering my life, as a 25-year-old girl who should be full of energy in life. This may change, but it is all at your own expense. Chronic Lyme is not recognized by the health insurer. This has caused costs to rise enormously and I have already had to pay €4,000 since October.
My story:
On May 1, 2023 I had a tick bite, on May 23 the doctor gave me 10 days of antibiotics. Because I had Erythema migrans (EM), I did a blood test and on June 6 the blood test showed that I have Lyme disease. September 2023 my severe headache, fever and fatigue started, but this continued. Then I contacted the doctor again and had blood drawn again. I contacted a girl who also has Lyme and she indicated that the Borrelia bacteria (which causes Lyme disease) is hiding. Sometimes the bacteria is active and other times non-active, so you don’t always see it in your blood, but it can still be active in your body. This girl was sent to various hospitals in the Netherlands for 1.5 years with the message: “Unfortunately, we know little about Lyme”. As a result, she has become sicker and sicker and she is now on IV therapy. She recommended going to an ILADS doctor (international, interdisciplinary organization of scientists and doctors). They are much further along in Lyme disease and are allowed much more medication due to different guidelines. The 2nd blood test indicated that Lyme is no longer active, but my complaints persisted. Because of the girl’s tip, I went to an ILADS doctor in October and I am already very grateful to her!
The scan at the ILADS doctor showed that my immune system has been triggered, which has activated my lymph nodes, so there is a need to respond. I had blood taken which was sent to various labs, including a lab in Germany. In Germany they are much further along in researching Lyme. This blood test showed that my body is currently having difficulty digesting milk, gluten and chicken eggs. I was put on a strict diet avoiding milk, gluten and chicken eggs and I was also given medication for the intestinal protocol. The blood test results have also been reviewed and I have 3 Lyme co-infections. This means that the tick has carried several bacteria and viruses. Thanks to the medication for the intestinal protocol and the diet, I see a small improvement. Now my immune system + the bacteria are being tackled and I am receiving new medicines for this.
I have the following complaints every day: headache 24/7, elevation, fatigue, brainfrog, poor sleep and I am mentally challenged. I think positivity is very important and creating beautiful moments, but I know that I can’t do anything the next day. Due to Lyme disease I can no longer work and no money is coming in, so I need your help. I find it difficult to ask for help in this way, but this is the only way to get better. All contributions help and I am very grateful for every contribution!
Love, Amber
