The 2023 post-season test of the FIA Formula 2 Championship will begin its first day on Wednesday, November 29th, with Ritomo Miyata participating from his 2024 team, Rodin Carlin. She completed a total of 75 laps in her first F2 car at the Yas Marina Circuit, finishing the afternoon session 18th out of 22 cars. Oliver Bearman set the fastest time in the second half of the first afternoon’s session, holding off Andrea Kimi Antonelli to make it 1-2 for Prema Racing.
Bearman set the fastest time on Pirelli soft tires with a time of 1:36.092, followed by Kimi Antonelli, 0.165 seconds behind. The pit lane was very crowded when the morning session went green, but things did not start as planned for Oliver Goethe. The #21 Trident came to a stop before Turn 6, and the first red flag of the day was shown five minutes into the race. Once the conditions returned to green flag, the drivers started running again, with DAMS’s Juan Manuel Correa taking the early lead with a time of 1 minute 38.388 seconds. Shortly after, Goethe in his Trident stopped just after the 14th corner, bringing out a second red flag. A few minutes later, Enzo Fittipaldi (#22 Van Amersfoor Racing) stopped at Turn 7, bringing out the third red flag. When the session started again, DAMS’ Jack Crawford marked the top time with a time of 1 minute 37 seconds. Crawford was in the lead after an hour, but stopped at Turn 8, bringing out the fourth red flag of the morning. As the session resumed with 1 hour and 50 minutes remaining in the morning, the red flag was shown for the fifth time in quick succession. Ritomo Miyata’s Rodin Carlin stopped at the 11th corner. When the session resumed, Victor Martins set the fastest ART Grand Prix time of 1 minute 36 seconds, leading Rodin Carlin’s Zane Maloney by 0.3 seconds. Martins then cut his personal best time by a hundredth to a time of 1:36.852. With less than 30 minutes remaining, Fittipaldi joined Martins in the 1 minute 36 seconds range, taking second place, 0.108 seconds off the top time. Crawford also improved his time in the final stages, registering a time of 1:37.006 with 10 minutes remaining, moving into third place. Antonelli was the busiest driver of the morning in his first test in an F2 car, completing 44 laps to complete the first segment of the day. Ritomo Miyata (Rodin Carlin) Afternoon Having just finished his lunch break, Ritomo Miyata piloted the #4 Rodin Carlin for the first 15 minutes of the afternoon and took the lead with a time of 1 minute 37.796 seconds. Next, Paul Arone in the #9 Hitech Pulse Eight set the top time with a time of 1 minute 37.796 seconds, 0.241 seconds faster than Miyata’s time. Campos Racing’s Josep Maria Marti then took first place with a time of 1 minute 37.529 seconds, with less than an hour remaining. Most of the afternoon session was focused on long runs, so there were few significant time gains. Bearman moved into first place just after the halfway mark and led PREMA with a time of 1:37.316. Antonelli then made it 1-2 for the Italian team, but lost time as he exceeded the track limits, leaving him just 0.090 seconds behind Bearman. Aaron improved his time to within 0.016 seconds of Bearman as the clock ticked down into the final hour of the run, while Martin and Hajar each put two Campos into the top five. With 45 minutes remaining, the Prema duo moved up the standings again, with Bearman clocking a time of 1:37.243 and Antonelli second, 0.049 seconds behind. A few minutes later, F3 champion Gabriel Bortleto became fastest for Invicta Virtuosi Racing with a time of 1:37.110. Martins returned to near the top of the ART and rose to second place, then further improved his time to record a time of 1 minute 37.032 seconds. With less than 30 minutes remaining, the French driver recorded a time of 1 minute 36.986 seconds, making him the first time he had broken 1 minute 36 seconds. As the session drew to a close, Amouri Korder set the third fastest time of 1:37.059. Wearing Pirelli soft tires, Bearman regained first place with a time of 1:36.294 with 14 minutes remaining on the first day, and then improved his time twice to record a time of 1:36.092. Antonelli followed, moving into second place with a difference of 0.165 seconds. Martens, who had fallen outside the top 10, ended the first day in the top three, 0.302 seconds behind the leader PREMA.
