Roger Federer, the tennis legend, has it loud Forbes once again managed to place himself among the ten highest paid athletes in the world. In a list dominated by soccer stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Federer proves his market value is unmatched off the court.
Federer’s financial success despite limited playing time
Between May 1, 2022 and May 1, 2023, the 20-time Grand Slam winner earned $95.1 million. Interestingly, this significant sum came mainly from off-court activities.
During this 12-month period, Federer only appeared at the Laver Cup, where he ended his impressive career. The 42-year-old Swiss played his last match at last year’s Laver Cup, where he teamed up with his long-time friend and rival Rafael Nadal to play doubles against Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe.
Last month, Federer returned as a spectator to the Laver Cup in Vancouver, an event he co-founded and in which he competed four times, winning the first three editions from 2017 to 2019 with Team Europe.
A new chapter after your tennis career
Federer’s retirement from competitive tennis was announced in September. He put down his racket after a final match alongside Rafael Nadal at the Laver Cup, the international team tournament he co-founded in 2017.
His list of more than a dozen long-term partners remains even after his career ends. He recently announced a licensing agreement for his RF brand with eyewear manufacturer Oliver Peoples.
He also holds a significant stake in the fast-growing Swiss shoe company On. The list of highest-paid athletes also includes icons like Kylian Mbappé and LeBron James. Ronaldo tops the list with $136 million, followed by Messi with $130 million.
Federer’s success shows that his appeal and influence extend far beyond the tennis world and that he remains an important figure in the sport even after his active career.
