Sometimes whooping cough is diagnosed after ARVI, especially in children. But another reason emerged, an infectious disease specialist spoke about it Andrey Pozdnyakov in a conversation with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

The doctor said that mycoplasma infection causes such a long cough. This is a respiratory disease, it is not very contagious – only with prolonged close contact with a patient or carrier of the infection, if they sneeze and cough.

Therefore, children and adolescents are at risk in educational and preschool institutions. And also older people whose immune response is lower.
