There was a heavy fire in a building by the Fortress in the center of Kristiansand.

The police in Agder reported a fire in a smaller building next to the Fortress in Kristiansand. The building is the older listed Portalen, writes the newspaper Kristiansand.
– The emergency services are on the scene, open flames in the roof, the police wrote in the introductory phase.
The building quickly caught fire and could not be saved.
In an update, the police write that there was a complete over-ignition.
– We have been in contact with the business managers who state that there should be no people in the building. There is no danger of spreading, the task leader told NTB.
The building is used by Kirkens Bymisjon, which operates a rehabilitation service for people with drug problems on site. The house contains, among other things, a cafe and a workshop.
– This is a shock, says Wenche Rønning to Avisen Kristiansand. She is business manager for Portalen.
The newspaper Kristiansand’s reporter at the scene said that small bangs were heard from the powerful fire.
The police have confirmed that there are no people in the house at this time of day.
– It is a violent fire and full ignition, says operations manager Tom Einar Gausdal in the Agder police district to NTB.
Operations leader Vigleik Fidje in the police says that the house was already on fire when the emergency services arrived at 00:30.
– We are working to extinguish it, while the building is probably lost. It is a controlled burn we are talking about here, he adds The newspaper Kristiansand.
At 01.34 the police write in an update that the building is more or less burnt down. The fire service is still extinguishing the fire.
