BWF World Tour Finals 2023: Finalists from Jakarta and Event Details

Jakarta

BWF officially released eight representatives from five sectors who qualified for the tournament BWF World Tour Finals 2023 in Hangzhou, China, December 13 to 17. Indonesia passed six representatives.

The list was published by BWF on its official website Tuesday (28/11/2023). In its announcement, BWF said there were eight places in each of the five sectors, with a maximum of two players per Member Association, and one place reserved for the world champion.

“BWF is excited to promote Hangzhou as the official host of the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals, with world-class facilities and infrastructure. The BWF World Tour Finals is our signature season-ending event, and thanks to HSBC, we can enhance our overall commitment to sport and the players,” said BWF Secretary General Thomas Lund

“We look forward to welcoming the best players this season to Hangzhou to compete for a prize of 2.5 million US dollars, which is the largest prize in badminton history,” he said.

In the women’s singles event, world champion from South Korea, An Se Young, had an extraordinary season by winning eight titles in BWF World Tour tournaments from 10 finals, securing 119,890 points to take first place. Meanwhile Chen Yu Fei, the Olympic gold medalist, was in second place.

In the men’s singles sector, Kodai Naraoka won 11,000 points from his victory at the 2023 China Masters. The Japanese badminton player leads the men’s singles standings in the Race To Finals with 89,520 points.

Anders Antonsen from Denmark was the last player to qualify. Antonsen’s qualification will be determined by the results of the all-Japanese final between Naraoka and Kenta Nishimoto at the 2023 China Masters.

Switching to the women’s doubles, Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan took the top spot despite only playing in 12 BWF World Tour tournaments. The world champion collected 101,340 points thanks to five titles from seven finals.

Their compatriots, Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning, who were taking part in the BWF World Tour for the first time, managed to qualify with 89,000 points.

In the men’s doubles sector, Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chen from China shot to first place in the Race To Finals rankings thanks to their victory in the 2023 China Masters final. Meanwhile, world champions Kang Min Hyuk/Seo Seung Jae from Korea qualified in third place.

The plan is that the group draw will be held at the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals Gala Dinner on Monday (11/12/2023). The winners of the BWF Player of the Year Awards will also be announced.
