Manchester City trailed by RB Leipzig in the first half. The defending champion Liga Champions it trailed 0-2 after being broken through twice by Lois Openda.
From Man City vs RB Leipzig On matchday 5, Group G of the Champions League was held at the Etihad Stadium, Wednesday (29/11) early morning WIB. Both teams have confirmed they will qualify for the round of 16.
This match is also crucial in the race for group champions. Leipzig, who are three points behind City in Group G, must win in order to maintain their chance of finishing in first place.
Meanwhile, City only needs one point to ensure they become group winners. Pep Guardiola’s troops previously won 3-1 at home to Leipzig.
The match had only entered the fifth minute, Leipzig was already threatening City’s goal. Xavi Simons, who entered the City penalty box, then fired a low shot, but it went wide of the goal.
Leipzig opened the scoring in the 13th minute. Lois Openda received a pass from Leipzig goalkeeper Janis Blaswich and immediately took the ball into the City penalty box. Openda then fired a shot towards the bottom right corner of the goal to beat Stefan Ortega.
Two minutes later, City had the opportunity to score a goal back. Bernardo Silva’s free kick was followed by Ruben Dias with a header, but it still bounced slightly over the Leipzig crossbar.
Appearing dominant, City actually conceded again in the 33rd minute. Openda once again got his name on the scoreboard to put Leipzig 2-0 up.
Openda received the ball from Xavi Simons in his own playing area and dribbled the ball into the City penalty box after passing Ruben Dias. Openda then checked Josko Gvardiol and beat Ortega with a low shot towards the near post.
