The Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) of the Gerindra Party said that parliament, as the representation of the people, must be able to show commitment to fighting various forms of colonialism such as what Israel has done to Palestine. He invited the parliaments of Asian countries who are members of APA to unite to reject and fight Israeli colonialism.
At this session, a number of parliaments expressed views regarding the importance of APA parliament’s efforts to support Palestinian independence. Also present at this session was the Deputy Chairman of the Palestinian Parliament, Ali Feisal, who was later elected as Chairman of the Palestinian Commission. Indonesia was asked to be the Rapporteur in this Palestinian Commission.
During the session, Fadli Zon also condemned the double standards and hypocrisy of countries that have often spoken out about human rights and democracy, but have not responded to Israel’s atrocities against Palestinians.
According to Fadli, Israel brutally targets attacks on civilians including women and children. There were more than 15 thousand fatalities and tens of thousands injured. Israel has also been proven to bombard hospitals, schools, journalists, refugees, including Indonesian hospitals.
“These are all barbaric acts, beyond humanity and even crimes against humanity and war crimes. Countries that support Israel’s atrocities no longer have the legitimacy to talk about humanitarian morals, democracy and human rights,” said Fadli Zon at the start of the session.
Fadli emphasized the full support of the Indonesian people in pushing for Palestinian independence. According to him, the current temporary ceasefire in Gaza will not be effective in stopping Israel’s war crimes unless it is a permanent ceasefire and frees Palestine from colonialism.
Fadli also invited the Asian parliaments present to make joint efforts to encourage the achievement of Palestinian independence, one of which was through the recently formed Palestine Commission.
