Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan expressed today, November 28, the opinion that the leadership of the Transcaucasian republic should participate in the December summit of the Eurasian Economic Union in St. Petersburg, since Yerevan assumes the chairmanship of this integration association.
“We are becoming the chairing country of the EAEU. The decision has not been made yet, but I personally believe that in order to assume the chairmanship of the EAEU, Armenia must participate,” – said the speaker of the Armenian parliament in a conversation with journalists.
According to him, the EAEU currently provides an economic environment for Armenia.
There were no representatives of Armenia at the CSTO summit in Minsk on November 23, but it is expected that they will come to the meetings under the auspices of the CIS and the EAEU in St. Petersburg, the Russian Presidential Assistant for Foreign Policy Affairs said in a conversation with reporters last Thursday Yuri Ushakov.
“I believe that they will come to St. Petersburg. There will be an informal meeting of the CIS countries and a formal meeting of the EAEU. At this meeting, Armenia becomes the chairman after us, so I think that Nikol Pashinyan will come to take up the baton from Vladimir Putin», – Ushakov noted.
Let us remind you that Nikol Pashinyan refused to take part in the CSTO summit in the Belarusian capital. His example was also followed by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ararat MirzoyanMinister of Defense Suren Papikyan and Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryanwho refrained from participating, respectively, in the meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Ministry of Defense and the Committee of Secretaries of the Security Councils of the CSTO member states. Pashinyan said on November 15 that the Armenian side decided not to participate in events under the auspices of the CSTO and the CIS for various reasons.
