Iran’s Agreements with Moscow for Su-35, Mi-28, and Yak-130 Military Aircraft

Iran has reached agreements with Moscow for the supply of Russian-made Su-35 fighter jets, Mi-28 attack helicopters and Yak-130 training aircraft, the news agency reports Tasnimciting a statement by the country’s deputy defense minister, General Mahdi Farahi.

The minister announced the completion of plans to include Su-35 fighter jets, Mi-28 attack helicopters and Yak-130 trainer aircraft in the combat units of the Iranian Armed Forces. In his words, “these three advanced military means will definitely be available to Iran, and this process is currently underway.”

The Iranian Air Force has only a few dozen strike aircraft, including Russian aircraft as well as outdated American models acquired before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Iran has not acquired any new fighter jets in recent years, except for a few Russian MiG-29s purchased in the 1990s.
