They rescue a Cuban family abandoned by coyotes in the Mexican desert

The National Guard and the Mexican Army carried out a joint operation this weekend that resulted in the rescue of a family of Cuban migrants who had been abandoned in a desert area near the border between the Aztec country and the United States.

According to local media The Impartialthe operation was carried out shortly before midnight on Sunday, November 26, and also included the participation of the Central Sector Border Patrol and the California municipal police.

The family, which consisted of a nine-year-old girl, a 13-year-old teenager, two women and an adult man, were found wandering in the area near El Centinela hill.

The authorities’ report indicates that the Cubans were having difficulties in the dark, not knowing where to go, and struggling with the terrain and the low temperatures of the desert at night.

When questioned, the man indicated that they had hired the services of some alleged coyotes, who promised them safe passage across the border, but when they approached, they forcibly removed them from their vehicle, leaving them to their fate.

The migrants were placed under the care of the Family and Gender Violence Unit, which transferred the members to the central command to guarantee their safety. There, they were offered food, water and shelter, all while officials from the National Migration Institute (INM) determined what to do with them.

This case is just one of the latest examples that highlight the dangers that migrants, regardless of their nationality, face when they try to reach the United States irregularly.

Despite the efforts of the Joe Biden administration to promote legal, organized and safe routes to enter the United States, these types of cases continue to be repeated.

However, opting for legal options is no guarantee of being safe from this type of situation, since, in October, a Cuban reported that he and his family were victims of extortion while they were heading to the north of the country to attend their appointment scheduled through the CBP One application.

Likewise, in September, An entire family was kidnapped in the north of the country while they were waiting for their appointment with the immigration authorities at the border.. The family of those affected went to social networks to denounce what happened, pointing out that those responsible demanded 800 dollars for each of the three kidnapped people.
