Remco and Marein live with their kids in a terraced house in Zoetermeer. Remco bought this house with his ex-wife in 2003, but now it is time for something new. “We notice that it is becoming quite cramped inside with four children,” Remco explains. The family’s biggest problem is the space in the house, especially the living room and kitchen are very tight. “You’re really on top of each other there.”
If the couple now has to make the choice to renovate or move, Remco chooses to renovate, but he does so mainly for his children. “They have lived here all their lives and I think it is nice to keep that place.” Things are different for Marein. Because Remco previously lived here with his ex-wife, she prefers to look for a completely new house. “Because then I can choose something together with Remco and build it.”
Marein is afraid that if their situation does not change quickly, more and more mutual irritations will arise. “I don’t think it will be very pleasant,” she explains to the cameras Buy or Demolish? That is why it is important to make a decision quickly and the couple still chooses to buy a house. They soon come across a cottage that meets all their expectations. “This is really a perfect house for us,” says Marein.
Immediately upon entering, Remco and Marein speak in superlative terms. Literally, because even the dreaded half-open staircase in the living room, Marein exceeds her expectations. Their eyes quickly fall on the extra cupboard space in the room divider and the colors in the kitchen. When they take in the living room while sitting at the dining table, the amount of space really dawns on the couple. There is enough space for the whole family in this living room.
After all the ‘cool’, ‘beautiful’ and ‘super fun’ excesses, the couple still has two upper floors waiting for them. There too, the rooms make a positive impression on the couple. Remco marvels at the bedside tables and the ‘cool nightlights’.
On the attic floor, space has been made for two more bedrooms so that the eldest two children can also retreat to their own place. The tent over the bed full of underwater animals is a real eye-catcher and, according to Remco and Marein, will certainly be popular with Zeb. “Now he can really sleep in an aquarium,” Remco says jokingly. One thing is certain, the choice to buy was the right one, because the family can live in this house for years to come.
