Uģis Joksts will start the erudition game with the question: “Do you know what happened in Riga on December 30, 1923, almost 100 years ago?” On this day, the most luxurious cinema in the Baltics – “Splendid Palace” was opened. The erudition game “VIP” will participate in the centenary celebrations, inviting the team of the cinema “Splendid Palace” with captain Dairas Āboliņa and their loyal spectators with captain Roberta Beķeris to the game.
Daira Āboliņa – team captain, artistic director of “Splendid Palace” cinema, curator, film critic, who perceives watching movies as a very adventurous process. I believe that Latvian cinema will take its rightful place in the history books of world cinema and will also receive its “Oscar” or “Golden Palm” branch. She likes the spring blooms in the garden planted by her parents, and none of her friends have been safe from tasting organic apple juice.
Ieva Sīpola – the manager of the cinema “Splendid Palace” and the key to the success of the cinema, who often chooses to stay behind the scenes. Balancing on an administrative unicycle, juggling two balls – cinema and cinema space rental… Cinema is her work, but she tends to forget the names and directors of films, so she often invents her own. People appreciate humor, energy, crazy ideas and positivity.
Baiba Beatrise Sleže – the chairman of the board of SIA “Rīgas nami”, manages the company, which is like a multi-headed dragon. In order to have a clear view and sharp ideas, in his free time from work he goes to nature, plays tennis, goes snowboarding in winter and cooks gourmet meals for his friends. He knows his favorite movies by heart. Baiba’s motto is: live with joy!
Roberts Beķeris – team captain, film student in Great Britain; music, literature and visual arts enthusiast. In his spare time, he plays sports, plays music, illustrates a book and goes to a show.
Amanda Grīnberga – 3rd year student of the National Film School of the Latvian Academy of Culture, majoring in film directing. Future film director, LTV makeup artist. Try to speak only in cases where what is said meaningfully affects the dramaturgical development. Full-time film student, with a parallel interest in music, theater and art in general.
Rudolfs Deinats – LKA National Film School film directing graduate. Passionate film lover who expresses his opinions in the self-created cinema podcast “Bezfilma”, and also selects short films in the “Baltic Shorts” project. Likes to take pictures and would like to do it more often. Can’t break the habit of watching football games. He also enjoys five-hour “Tour de France” marathons, which he likens to slow cinema.
