A study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism released findings that suggest a new risk factor for kidney failure.
Scientists have concluded that to predict and diagnose this disease, it is recommended to take into account hemoglobin levels in the blood.
Researchers analyzed data on more than 23,500 people over five years. As a result of observations, it was found that high levels of hemoglobin can contribute to the development of chronic diseases of the genitourinary system, such as chronic renal failure. This condition is characterized by reduced filtration capacity of the kidneys, which cannot be restored.
In addition, the study found that a decrease in glomerular filtration rate and high levels of glycated hemoglobin are significant risk factors for the development of renal failure. The scientists also took into account other criteria, such as systolic blood pressure and age.
The results of this study expand the ability to predict patient outcomes and will help diagnose chronic kidney disease in those people who do not have standard risk factors. This is a significant step forward towards more accurate and earlier diagnosis and treatment of this serious disease.
