The term of office of Werder managing director Frank Baumann (48) ends after seven years on June 30 next year. Since announcing his resignation at the beginning of November, the supervisory board has been officially looking for a successor.
Benjamin Schmedes (formerly of Werder II and now technical director of the Dutch first division club Arnheim) was considered an option. The supervisory board has not yet contacted him, so he is no longer considered as a candidate.
The favorite is of course Clemens Fritz (42). The ex-captain has developed specifically as a managing director over the years and is currently head of the professional football department.
Fritz is sure of the approval of potential new colleagues. As expected, the management around the outgoing Baumann, boss Klaus Filbry (56), Anne-Kathrin Laufmann (44) and Tarek Brauer (45) would welcome a decision in favor of Fritz due to the trusting cooperation in recent years.
Baumann successor: Werder bosses want Fritz!
However, the managing directors welcome the appointment to the supervisory board, which Fritz, along with other candidates, also has to undergo. This has already happened. In “Doppelpass” (Sport 1), Werder’s football boss revealed: “I don’t want to go into the content in more detail. But we talked to each other.”
I had to Fritz present a concept with which he wants to lead Werder into a more successful future. However, nothing is known about the details of his ideas. That the ideas come from them Frank Baumanns However, the difference can be huge and can be ruled out.
