JAKARTA.NIAGA.ASIA – The DKI Jakarta Health Service ensures that the spread of Wolbachia mosquitoes does not endanger public health.
“If a mosquito bites a human, the human body will remain healthy and will not get sick with Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). “Because this is as safe as being bitten by an ordinary mosquito (our term kebon mosquito),” said Head of the Epidemiology and Immunization Surveillance Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Service, Ngabila Salama, Monday (27/11/23).
According to the Head of the Ngabila Section, this innovation will ensure that the Aedes aegepty mosquito becomes the Wolbachia-bearing Aedes aegepty mosquito. So the Aedes aegypti mosquito (bad mosquito) carries the dengue DEN virus 1.2.3.4 Later it will stop breeding.
“I emphasize to the public not to think that humans in this case are only used as guinea pigs regarding Wolbachia. “The final target is that all Aedes aegypty mosquitoes (bad mosquitoes that carry the dengue fever virus DEN 1,2,3,4), will be sterile and can no longer carry the virus so they will no longer transmit dengue fever to humans,” explained the Head of the Ngabila Section.
Therefore, he appealed to the public to be calm and not to worry. Because mosquito farming is also given a blood feeder, which means it can be proven that even if humans are bitten by Wolbachia mosquitoes, they will still be healthy.
“This blood feed has been carried out by many figures, including Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and the Indonesian Minister of Health Budi G Sadikin. “Wolbachia does not reduce the population of mosquitoes that are still alive at this time,” concluded Section Head Ngabila.
