We had to jostle together this Sunday morning to see the oyster openers in their works.
This Sunday 26 number 2023, the P’tit Sablais, bar at the market of the Halles centrales of Sables-d’Olonne, hosted the second edition of the Oyster Cup,
The oyster opening competition created a warm atmosphere in the market.
Open to all, the competition saw professionals from different Sablais restaurants compete, but also oyster farmers, active or retired.
The latter showed all their dexterity in the art of opening oysters. The secret ? “Stay focused,” says a competitor.
And this, despite the joyous ambient hubbub:
The competitors first measured themselves during the timed test. The first eight found themselves on the final table with direct elimination duels.
Superb finale
The last duel was absolutely beautiful. It was opposed by Maryse Caillaud, an oyster farmer by profession, and William Raimbaud, a retired oyster farmer. The latter had already participated in the final the previous year and lost to Christopher Briat.
“Willy” took his revenge and won this year. His name therefore joins that of Christophe Briat on the Oyster Cup shield, itself inspired by the Brennus shield.
The competition ended with this very important moment appreciated by the Rawls brothers at the origin of the event: the third half!
