Through the Home Fire Campaign, the Red Cross and the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) They are offering free smoke alarms.
The program is active in all five boroughs of New York City: Brooklyn, Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens and Staten Island.
In addition to providing the smoke alarm, They install the device and provide instructions on fire safety in the home.
“Home fires claim seven lives every day, but having working smoke alarms can reduce the risk of death by half,” says the Red Cross.
How to get a free smoke detector
In one of the questions you must indicate the time you will be available to install your smoke alarm. And they will also consult you if you require a bedside shaker for people with hearing problems.
The Red Cross and FDNY clarify that, “at this time, we do not serve residents of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) building.”
