The Zero Waste Collective organized several activities for European Waste Reduction Week. The opportunity to return to capitalism, waste as well as cigarette butts and waste left abandoned and their impact on our daily lives.

Juggling conferences, workshops and screenings, the European Waste Reduction Week organized by the Zero Waste Collective was in full swing in Saint-Gaudens. The opportunity to learn a little more about the subject of waste and how to act on a daily basis to reduce their impact on the planet.

“It’s a very important week, our actions are important, there should be more people who are interested and who come to our meetings” assures Françoise Lombard-Farille.

So that to attract as many generations as possible and above all open the debate around waste and how to recycle or reuse it, the collective is associated with several groups, such as La Maison de l’avenir and its DIY workshops which use “waste” or broken items in other features. “For us it’s obvious to work with associations that work for a cause that we also defend.”

A real practical application which was accompanied by the screening of the film Exogene which made a strong impression on the spectators. Françoise testifies: “It was impressive, seeing all these open-air landfills in corners of the world that we didn’t even know existed.”

Activities around waste which continue with the presentation of the do-it-yourself pocket ashtray. An event organized by students from Didier Daurat college who received young CM2 students from the Résidence school on November 24.

Quiz, folding workshop and pocket ashtray making but above all mini-course on cigarette butts and their impact on the environment were on offer.

However, young schoolchildren were already aware of the cause of recycling and pollution. Hakim in cm2 explains: “I knew that the products from cigarette butts went into the earth, but I really liked the workshop. I think I will make this ashtray again at home.”

Young people concerned about the environment who surprised the teachers who supervise Didier Daurant’s middle school students “Well, for young schoolchildren, you know a lot more than some adults”.
