Ferrari’s Attempt to Take Second Place in the Constructors’ Championship in Abu Dhabi

The Ferrari team wanted to take second place in the constructors’ championship from Mercedes in Abu Dhabi. It became very exciting, but it just failed. Charles Leclerc tried a clever trick, but team boss Frédéric Vasseur is happy that this ultimately did not work.

Since Red Bull driver Sergio Perez had received a five-second time penalty in the final phase, there were suddenly opportunities for Lecerc. The Monegasque sacrificed his second place and then tried to hold up George Russell. With this he hoped to secure second place in the constructors’ championship. This just didn’t work and in the end they were quite happy with that.

Ferrari team boss Frédéric Vasseur is at peace with the fact that his team has finished third in the constructors’ championship. The Frenchman explains to Sky Sports where Leclerc’s trick came from: “Charles came up with the idea himself. We could be a little more aggressive and slow down Russell more, but it is also important to end the season on a positive note. The fact that Charles was able to start this race second and finish in that position is a first good step for the coming year. This was a very good choice on our part.”
