An Object Hits the Planet Jupiter and Explodes

Jakarta

A video taken by amateur astronomers in Japan shows the amazing moment. A comet super bright, also known as bolide, explodes when colliding with Planet Jupiter.

As a gas giant planet, Jupiter has a strong gravitational pull that often causes similar spectacular collisions. The impact of this collision was even less devastating than previous events, but it was still interesting to watch.

“There was another impact on Jupiter last night! The bright flash was a bolide, a shooting star in Jupiter’s atmosphere,” said renowned astronomer Heidi Hammel, who works at NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope.

The fall of Bolida as seen in the video is not unique to Jupiter. Better known as fireballs, a handful of such ultra-bright celestial objects enter Earth’s atmosphere every year.

They burn quickly, and often enter the Earth’s atmosphere over large areas of the ocean, making them difficult to witness. While this fireball may not have caused any real damage to Jupiter, other collisions in the past could have caused major damage.

In 1994, the gas giant was hit by the comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 for several days, an event that NASA said left “a large, dark scar in the planet’s atmosphere and sent plumes of superheat into its stratosphere.”

“Shoemaker-Levy 9 was a major blow to Jupiter. This event really strengthens our understanding of how important it is to monitor the environment around us, and to understand its potential impact on Earth in the future,” Hammel was quoted as saying. detikINET from Futurism.

Bolides themselves have not caused major problems for planet Earth, although the potential for danger may remain in the future.
