It will be completely banned on cars, the European Commission does not compromise: it will disappear completely – Drifts

The European Commission is seriously considering eliminating a certain practice used on cars forever

The automotive industry is facing a great revolution that will see traditional fuels disappear forever. Goodbye to diesel and petrol, therefore, but not before 2035 as far as Europe is concerned, when there will be the first step of this process with the ban on the sale of cars powered by this type of fuel.

New ban from the European Commission (Derapate)

Manufacturers have already started to move in this direction, expanding their offer of hybrid and electric models which, in the coming years, will completely replace vehicles with internal combustion engines. The objective is to eliminate polluting emissions from cars which will therefore be increasingly efficient and environmentally friendly in the future.

And it is in this context that a new measure desired by the company is inserted Commission Europeanwhich launched the proposal last July 14th eliminate the use of chromium in cars starting next year. It is a potentially material very harmful for man and nature, since it can cause health problems and illnesses, even serious ones, as well as being difficult to dispose of once used.

Cars, goodbye to chrome: we won’t see them anymore even in Italy

Chromium has been used to give the so-called chrome effect to car livery since the 1950s for essentially two reasons. On the one hand, more technical, chrome plating protects the bodywork from bad weather and rust, on the other hand, however, it is a simple personal taste of the person who buys the vehicle.

Chrome plating, in fact, gives a more elegant appearance than traditional paints. Except that, by using it, we risk jeopardizing not only the lives of those who carry out the operation in the factory (the exhalation of chromium can lead to cancer), but also the entire ecosystem that surrounds us. Once it arrives in the soil or in recycling centers, this material is difficult to dispose of with the risk of seriously polluting water and plants.

Therefore, the proposal from the European Commission banning chrome from cars would be a way to make the sector even more responsible in the fight against pollution, encouraging the use of more sustainable and safe materials. Some manufacturers such as Audi, Mercedes and Volvo have already started working on it, opting for less harmful alternatives.

Furthermore, even in the United States something is moving in this direction, as demonstrated by the choice of Tesla which has already introduced models with more ecological paints onto the market. California, in fact, has already presented the motion to ban chromium with a positive outcome, even if the ban, barring surprises, will not arrive before 2039.
