Strul with new Asus GT-ax6000

Hello,

I’ve replaced my Netgear Nighthawk R7000 with an Asus GT-AX6000, but it’s not exactly a smooth transition. I have some experience with networking but am far from an expert on the subject. This is how our network looks today:

-Asus GT-AX6000 Router
-Netgear GS116e Switch 16 ports – connected to the router above
-3 pcs Netgear GS108GE 8 ports – connected to the switch above
-3 computers connected by cable – connected to one of the GS108GE switches above
-2 Nvidia Shield connected by cable – connected to one of the GS108GE switches above
-Medium-sized Smart Home system (Homey) where some components use WiFi
-5 portable devices, such as phones and tablets, with WiFi

First, my Netgear Switch broke, which took me a while to figure out. Once I changed the mains part in it, there have been quite a few trips back and forth. Most often the wired devices (PCWindows) have lost connection with the router (Windows PC > GS108GE > GS116e > Asus GT-AX6000). Even if you ping the IP address, you get no response. Wifi connected devices have generally worked much better. After a bit of general tinkering, factory reset and restarts, it has finally started up with default settings.

In order not to have to reset all the gadgets in the network, I need to recreate the same environment as before. To achieve this I need to change DHCP from start 192.168.50.1 to 192.168.1.1. Just making this change took a long time to complete, had to restart almost all the stuff on the network multiple times. Mostly Wifi devices worked while Wired devices were mostly blocked.

Now I need to set a static IP on a server, which I have usually done via the router. According to the manual, leave DHCP active but activate “Enable manual assignment” and add the computer with the desired IP to the list. The problem is that as soon as you change the “Enable manual assignment” setting, all wired devices are thrown out again. It doesn’t matter how many reboots you do, they are completely disconnected. In the end, I have to do another factory reset and reset everything (IP range, WiFi SSID, password, etc.), but this time I choose to force the IP address from the static computer (server) instead of the router , which turns out to work well.

So, two questions:

1. Is my Asus GT-AX6000 crap, or could it be this complicated? I haven’t experienced anywhere near as many problems with the previous Netgear router that sat there for probably 7 years.
2. How to set a static IP in device in Asus GT-AX6000?
